The T&T Cricket Board (T&TCB) has come out in strong support of Government's efforts, via the Ministry of Tourism and InvesTT, to market T&T as the preferred sports tourism destination and investment capital of the Caribbean.Over the years, T&T's sportsmen and women's uniquely energetic displays have attracted positive attention to this country. Hasely Crawford, Ato Boldon, Brian Lara, Dwight Yorke, the Soca Warriors and the Red Force are known worldwide for their exciting performances.
Our people are well known for the infectious excitement we create and the energy we espouse at events that encapsulate our Sport and Culture. The rhythms of our dynamic music and the creative colour of our carnival transform the sporting arenas and maybe this is why sport watchers worldwide always comment on the unique styling of Trinbagonian athletes and their energetic displays.Sport Tourism can be a major economic divestment platform for T&T. The Government's drive to improve domestic sporting infrastructure will be a boost in this area, as visiting groups and teams can now traverse our twin islands enjoying their preferred sport at a choice of well appointed community venues.Much of the support systems are in place and it is laudable that the Ministry of Tourism is showing aggression and innovation in utilizing the access to markets, created by sport, to expose and embed T&T, as an energetic vibrant, fun-loving sports tourism destination.
The T&TCB have long recognized the value of our sport and its stars to our country's sports tourism efforts. The Celkon Tri-Nation Series in 2013, beamed live to all of Asia, the Tobago House of Assembly Regional Under-17 tournament, the now discontinued West Indies Cricket Board Caribbean T-20 and the Regional Super 50 tournament (final beamed live to India) have all put this country on the map. The second Test match in the West Indies-New Zealand series at the Queen's Park Oval, which bowls off tomorrow, will further expose the vivaciousness and vibrancy of T&T to the watching world. The work of the Government of T&T is noted, and the T&TCB stands ready, willing and able to assist.
