Defending BG T&T Interzone 50-over Under-13 champions East zone got this year's campaign off to a winning start behind an allround effort from Ronaldo Forester, escaping with a narrow two-wicket win over Tobago in round two on Sunday at the Bon Accord Recreation Ground, Tobago.All round one matches were postponed to a later date due to the inclement weather.After being asked to bat first by East, Tobago posted 127 all out in 35 overs. The match was reduced to 35 overs per team due to a late start. Gereeb Louis, who will represent the national Under-15 team next month in the West Indies Cricket Board Regional tournament, top scored with 30 for Tobago.
A Toney contributed 22, while left-arm spin bowler Ceejay Harrypersad was the best bowler for East, taking 2/15 in seven overs. Alexander Kassiram (1/1) and Forester (1/20) both grabbed one wicket each.In reply, Forester led the way for East, hitting 34 to guide the team to 128/8 in 27.5 overs. Leonardo Julien, who has also been chosen for the national Under-15 team, chipped in with 26 and captain Azarion Samuel made 12.The other three round two matches were not played due to rain. Those matches included the South-East/Central match, the South-West/South clash and the North-East/North encounter. Round three will bowl off on Sunday.
