National cyclist Njisane Phillip continued to rack up precious points in an effort to qualify for the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) World Cup 2014/2015 Series, pedaling to silver on Tuesday night in the men's sprint event at the Fuji Super Tuesday meet in Trexlertown, Pennsylvania
In the three-man final, Phillip came up against American duo David Espinoza and Danny Robertson. Espinoza was the strongest on the day, winning in a time of 10.68 seconds. Phillip finished second, while Robertson ended third.
T&T cyclists Kwesi Browne and Jude Codrington also competed in the sprints, finishing seventh and ninth respectively. It was an improved effort by Phillip, as the T&T rider had to settle for eighth overall in the sprint at the US Grand Prix last Friday, also in Pennsylvania. At the Grand Prix, Browne ended sixth overall.
In non-UCI events, national endurance cyclist Varun Maharajh grabbed two silver medals. Maharajh finished second in the pro men's ten-lap scratch race and the 40-lap madison, when he teamed up with fellow national cyclist Gevan Samuel.
Maharajh just missed out on a medal in the 20-lap points race, finishing fourth.
