A destructive spell of spin bowling from Bryan Boodram on Saturday, led the national Under-17 cricket team to a comfortable 60-run win over Vishnu Boys Hindu College in a 50-over match at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva.
The national team is preparing for the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Tobago House of Assembly 50-over tournament in Tobago, which will be held from July 6-16.
Chasing 239 for victory, Vishnu Boys, which won the premier division secondary schools cricket league this season, was dismissed for 178 in 40.3 overs. Bryan Boodram ended with 5/26 in 7.3 overs. Keron Persad was also among the wickets, grabbing 3/31 in 10 overs. Opening batsman Akeel Mohammed was the best batsman for Vishnu, scoring 55 off 62 balls. Mohammed struck eight fours and one six in his innings. Also contributing to the total were Brandon Boodram (36), Bryan's brother, and Kwinsi Williams (20).
Earlier, an excellent all-round batting effort guided T&T to a competitive 238/6. Dejourn Charles top scored with a patient 46 (84 balls), which included two fours. Five other batsmen scored over 20, including David Williams (36), Keagan Simmons (31), Sachin Seecharan (28), Brandon Maharaj (25) and Jordan Warner (22).
Jarlarnie Seales, who played for Vishnu Boys, took 2/56 in nine overs. Seales is also part of the national U-17 team but played for his school on this occasion. Deoraj Narine also bowled well, taking 2/36 in 10 overs.
