National badminton player Solangel Guzman continued her winning form in the women's singles draw yesterday at the Venezuela International Tournament in Caracas, Venezuela, advancing to the semi-finals.Guzman, who is aiming for a hat-trick of titles in the women's singles category at the tournament, faced Luz Maria Zornoza of Peru at 10.45 am for a spot in the final four. Guzman did not disappoint, prevailing in straight sets 21-17, 21-14. Late yesterday afternoon Guzman was scheduled to tackle Brazilian Lohaynny Vicente in the women's singles semi-finals.
On Friday Zornoza along with her partner Katherine Winder, also of Peru, got past Guzman and T&T team-mate Nekeisha Blake in round one of the women's doubles. The Peruvian pair breezed their way to a 21-9, 21-12 victory. T&T duo Nicholas Bonkowsky and Kerwyn Pantin also made an early exit in the tournament, going down 12-21, 2-21 to Brazilians Hugo Arthuso and Daniel Paiola in the first round of the men's doubles.
