The sport tourism industry will get a boost today with the running of the tenth annual Neal and Massy Rainbow Cup at Turtle Beach, Tobago.Triathlons are considered to be great platforms for the promotion of sport tourism due to the profile of the competitors. Competitors generally come for two days preceding the event and stay for two days post-event with supporters and family, spending valuable foreign currency on hotels, guest houses, entertainment and meals.
The Rainbow Cup Triathlon, which is being supported financially by the Sports Company of T&T, is one of the most popular races in the region, and attracts competitors from as far as Europe and North and South America, as well as the Caribbean.Hundreds of local competitors from across the country also journey to the sister isle to compete and support. In total, this year's competitive field numbers over 300 across the multiple events.Action today begins at 8 am with olympic, sprint and relay events.It promises to be a fun-filled, exciting event for athletes and spectators alike.
