National sibling duo Joshua and Adam Alexander snatched gold and bronze respectively at the Lou Maltese Memorial cycling event on Sunday in New York, USA.
Adam, representing Team Foundation, has been in top form of late in USA, winning the Dave Jordan Classic on June 7 in Central Park, New York and the Tour of Somerville event in New Jersey on May 26. On this occasion, Joshua, who also represents Team Foundation, defeated the rest of the field in a sprint at the end.
On Saturday, at the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) Festival of Speed cycling event in Pennsylvania, USA, national rider Kwesi Browne won bronze in the men's keirin final. Sam Webster of New Zealand won gold, while American Matthew Baranoski took silver. Another T&T rider Quincy Alexander finished twelfth overall.
On Friday, it was a tough day for T&T at the Festival of Speed, as five T&T riders including defending champion Njisane Phillip could not advance to the quarterfinals of the men's sprint.
Also failing to advance to the quarters were Quincy Alexander, Browne, Justin Roberts and Jude Codrington. In non-UCI events national endurance rider Varun Maharajh finished fourth in the pro men's super sprint elimination event, then came fourth again in the pro men's 80-lap madison when he joined forces with Barbadian rider Darren Matthews.
The T&T team has been using UCI events in USA recently in an aim to earn enough points to qualify for the three-leg UCI World Cup Series 2014/2015.
The first leg will take place in Guadalajara, Mexico on November 8 and 9, followed by leg two in London, England from December 5-7. The world cup series will conclude in Cali, Colombia on January 17 and 18, 2015.
Quincy Alexander and Phillip are also using the UCI meets to prepare for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland from July 23 � August 3.
