Two hundred athletes from ten special needs organisations gathered on Saturday at Constantine Park, Macoya, to participate in the fourth annual Special Olympics of T&T (SOTT) National Cricket Games.
In spite of scattered showers throughout the course of the games, the SOTT players remained in high spirits and displayed their cricket expertise in the individual skills challenge, as well as the competitive games.
Emerging victorious this year was the National Centre for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD), followed by Goodwill Industries which came in second and the Memisa Centre which took third place.
Maskini Williams of NCPD was awarded Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the games. As a longtime partner of SOTT and its sporting events, the Digicel Foundation was represented by the Foundation's project co-ordinator, Anjaana Downes, who presented MVP Williams with a Blu Life Play smartphone.
Williams also received a bat from West Indies cricketer Daren Ganga who made an appearance on behalf of his foundation, the Daren Ganga Foundation. Next on the SOTT calendar is the second Norma James Community Caravan for the year, which takes place at the Cocoyea Sporting Complex, San Fernando, on July 12.
