Andwuelle Wright recorded T&T's only individual gold medal on the second day of the Central America and Caribbean (CAC) Junior Championship, in Michoacan, Mexico, yesterday, when he dominated the field to win the Boys' Under-20 long jump with a 7.15m effort, while this country celebrated another two gold medals after successes in the relay events.In total, T&T captured nine medals, three gold, silver and bronze each on the second day to take the medal tally to 16.
On Friday, T&T opened its account with four gold medals, one silver and two bronze.Wright was among the standout performers for T&T. He was the only two jump above the seven-meter mark. The next best attempt after Wright's 7.15m leap was that of Bryan Sanchez of Mexico who cleared 6.93m, followed by third placed finisher Tony Solis (Dominican Republic), whose best effort was 6.91m.A day after Zakiya Denoon, Aaliyah Telesford, Kayelle Clarke and Akila McShine teamed up to win gold in the girls' Under-20 4x100m final, both T&T's U-18 and U-20 teams also claimed gold. The U-18 team of David Winchester, Akanni Hislop, Corey Stewart and Xavier Mulugata won in a time of 41.25.
The U-20s consisting of Holland Cabara, Jonathan Farhina, Micah Ballantyne and John Mark Constantine, clocked an impressive 40.06 seconds for T&T's third gold on the day.
In other results, Zakiya DenoonMeanwhile, Denoon, who won silver in the U-20 100m sprint on the opening day, again finished runner-up, this time in the 200m dash, yesterday. She clocked 23.63 seconds, while her compatriot Kayelle Clarke was close behind in third clocking 23.71.
