Two-time defending Under-19 girls Caribbean champion Charlotte Knaggs will lead a talented bunch of T&T juniors at the Caribbean Area Junior Squash Championships (CASA) from today until July 20 in Bermuda.
T&T, coached by David Scott, left the Piarco International Airport last night. The T&T contingent also includes Nicholas Caddle (U-15), Chad Salandy (U-17), Nku Patrick (U-19), Faith Gillezeau (U-17), Jaime Edghill (U-17), Kobie Khan (U-15), Cristopher Anthony (U-13), Marie Claire Barcant (U-15), Jinan Al Rawi (U-13), Alexandria Yearwood (U-15), Aimee De Verteuil (U-13), Jonathan Blanc (U-15) and Beverly Wilson (team manager). Many parents will be accompanying the players on the trip.
This CASA competition is the pinnacle of squash in the region. The tournament pits the best players from T&T, Barbados, Venezuela, Guyana, Cayman Islands, Bermuda, Jamaica and other Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) against each other in several categories including individual and team categories.
The team has the full backing from the Ministry of Sport and the Sport Company of T&T (SporTT).
Kamasha Robertson, a sports psychologist with SporTT, helped the players prepare for the competition over the past four months. Robertson worked on mental toughness, resilience and team buliding with the T&T players. Robertson stated that young athletes find it difficult at times to deal with challenges in sport.
