Crystian Thurton struck the innings of the West Indies Cricket Board Regional Under-15 50-over tournament so far, leading defending champions T&T to a crushing 209-run win over the Leeward Islands in round two action in Jamaica, yesterday.
Right-handed Thurton slammed 152 off 141 balls which included 17 fours and one six. Thurton, who was part of the national U-15 team last year, took T&T to a massive 321/6 in its 50 overs. Brandon Singh (59) and Navin Bedaisee (50) slammed half-centuries to boost T&T's total. The T&T batsmen went on a rampage in the last 13 overs to take the score past the 300-run mark.
T&T scored 124 runs in the last 13 overs, taking the score from 197/4 after 37 overs to 321/6 at the end of the innings. Jerrilious Louis was the top bowler for the Leewards taking 3/53.
In reply, the Leeward Islands were reduced to 86/4 after 23.2 overs as victory looked certain for the defending champions. The innings was over for the Leewards with the score on 112/7 as three players could not bat due to injury. Justin Gangoo (3/19) and Avinash Mahabirsingh (2/6) were the best bowlers for T&T.
In other matches, Guyana defeated Barbados by 46 runs, while at Kensington the Windwards were 243/6 off 47.2 overs chasing 256 for victory against Jamaica at press time. Round three will bowl off today.
