Opening batsman Amir Jangoo and fast bowler Akil Seetal were in top form yesterday, guiding T&T to an opening round win in the West Indies Cricket Board Regional Under-19 tournament at the Demerara Cricket Club ground in Guyana.
T&T blew past an ICC Americas team by 164 runs, winning its first game in Guyana. In the recently concluded three-day tournament T&T did not win a match finishing at the bottom of the standings.
Left-handed Jangoo continued the form he showed in the three-day tournament, hitting 95 to guide T&T to 254 all out in 48.3 overs. T&T's batting is still a concern as no other batsman got to 50. The T&T batting did not live up to expectation in the three-day competition. Jemeel Maniram (43) and Brian Christmas (30) also made contributions to the total.
In reply, ICC got off to a slow start getting to 31/3 after 15 overs. ICC Americas never recovered as Seetal finished as the best bowler with 4/21 in nine overs. Justin Joseph and Samuel Roopnarine also bowled well snatching 3/15 and 2/11 respectively as ICC was dismissed for 91.
In other matches three-day champions Guyana started with a win defeating Leeward Islands by 76 runs at Enmore. Guyana recovered from 140/8 after 38.3 overs to post a respectable 202 all out in 49.2 overs. Guyana then bundled the Leewards out for 126.
At Bourda Oval Jamaica crushed Barbados by eight wickets. Batting first Barbados could only muster 97 in 36.4 overs. The Jamaicans got to the target comfortably getting to 100/2 in 31.3 overs.
T&T will be on a second round bye today. T&T's next match will be against Guyana in round three on Thursday.
