The Royhil Seals won the Overall Championship Trophy at the inaugural National Water Polo Club Championships at Marlins Swim Club in Westmoorings on Monday night.
The club won the Under 16 Male, Under 16 Female and Under 14 Coed categories to finish slightly ahead of the hosts, winners of the Open Male, Under 19 Male and Under 19 Female divisions, in the points tally.
After collecting his team's trophy, Royhil head coach Kester Scanterbury said it was a hard fought victory.
"It's been a long time coming," he said. "The guys have worked really hard as a team and they just had the desire. The competition was all very stiff. Marlins really pushed us."
Royhil striker Kieron Emmanuel was also in praise of his club's teamwork.
"We played as one unit with one common goal," he said. "Marlins team comprised of several national players and they had a lot of experience over us but we didn't let that bother us and we showed that we are capable of beating them."
The tournament marked the first outing of the newly formed Silver Sharks Club, the first Water Polo team to emerge from eastern Trinidad. Team manager Denise Constantine said it had been a great experience for the youngsters.
"Everybody has been very accommodating and encouraging towards us," she said. "This has gone a long way towards our development."
