Half centuries from Camillo Carimbocas and Brian Christmas led the national Under-19 cricket team to its second consecutive win defeating the Leeward Islands by five wickets in the final round of the West Indies Cricket Board Regional U-19 tournament in Guyana, yesterday.
Carimbocas struck 60, while Christmas made an unbeaten 57 as T&T chased 251 to win, getting to 256/5 in 40 overs. Earlier, opening batsman Amir Jangoo and some poor bowling from the Leeward Islands got T&T to 44/0 after three overs.
Captain Jeremy Solozano only made six this time around. On Tuesday Solozano top scored with 56 to lead T&T to a 58-run win over Barbados. T&T got to 100/2 after 15.2 overs and kept up a steady run rate throughout the innings. Jangoo (44) and Justin Joseph (27) also made valuable contributions. Jeremiah Louis was the best bowler for the Leeward Islands taking 2/42.
Kacey Carty cracked 83 not out to guide the Leeward Islands to 250/8 batting first. Ross Powell and Shaquille Martina both batted well, scoring 53 and 38 respectively. Tevon Jadoo who has taken wickets consistently throughout the tournament grabbed 3/42 in 10 overs.
Also among the wickets were Justin Joseph (2/60) and Akil Seetal (2/39). In other matches the Windward Islands defeated Jamaica by nine wickets, while Guyana got past Barbados by 44 runs. Guyana advances to tomorrow's final, where it was not certain if they will meet Jamaica or Windward Islands.
