Chayse McQuan and Faith Gellizeau led the national men's and ladies squash teams to opening wins in the team competition at the Senior Caribbean Area Squash Association (Casa) Championships at the Barbados Squash Club, Christ Church, Barbados, yesterday.
The T&T men defeated Bermuda 4�1 in men's pool B round-robin action. McQuan, Kale Wilson, Don Lee and Nku Patrick all won their matches for T&T, while Colin Ramasra was the only T&T player to come out on the losing end.
McQuan outlasted Andrew Boyce in straight sets 11�4, 11�7, 11�4. Patrick also won comfortably in straight sets and Wilson fought back after losing the first set to win his encounter in four sets.
In the ladies division, the details were not clear up to press time, but T&T did pick up three wins against Bermuda. Gillizeau won her encounter and T&T won two more matches by default. Up to press time last night the T&T ladies were in battle against Jamaica.
On Monday night, Barbadian Karen Meakins won the ladies singles title easing past Guyanese Mary Fung-A-Fat 11�3, 11�7, 11�6. In the men's singles final, defending champion Chris Binnie of Jamaica defeated Cameron Stafford of Cayman Islands 11�9, 11�7, 11�8.
