After cementing their spots at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games, T&T's women and men table tennis teams closed their accounts at the qualifying tournament, with a loss and a win, respectively, on the final day of team action on Saturday.
Up against Guatemala in a third/fourth playoff, T&T's women levelled the team score twice, before going under 3-2 after five matches.
France-based Caribbean champion Rheana Chung opened for T&T with a 3-1 win over Andrea Estrada, before Guatemala fired back with two straight wins, from Mabelun Enrique (3-0) and Andrea Montufar (3-1) over Catherine Spicer and Aleena Edwards, respectively. Chung returned to keep T&T alive in the contest courtesy a 3-0 win over Montufar. But, in the following and deciding match, Edwards suffered a 3-0 (12-14, 4-11, 2-11) loss to Estrada. The match followed the second semifinal in which T&T faced Venezuela and suffered a 3-0 defeat.
T&T, won its group with a 3-2 win over Jamaica, a 3-1 win over Guatemala and a 3-0 win over Guyana.
Meanwhile, the men's team finished their campaign with a comfortable 3-0 win over St Vincent and the Grenadines in the fifth/sixth place playoff. Aaron Wilson and Dexter St Louis were untroubled in their 3-0 wins over Kamal Hunte and Damion Dublin, respectively, while Curtis Humphreys recorded a relatively comfortable 3-1 victory over Deighton King in the second match.
Both T&T teams qualified for the CAC Games, which takes place in San Salvador, El Salvador, in November.
The singles event began yesterday. The top four finishers in both divisions will also qualify for the CAC Games.
