BASSETERRE– Purposeful batting led by Deandra Dottin set things up and steady bowling led by Anisa Mohammed formalised a 65-run victory for West Indies Women over New Zealand Women in the ICC Women's Championship yesterday here, giving them a 2-0 lead in the series.
Dottin curbing her natural instincts, collected seven fours and one six in an unbeaten 82 from 99 balls, as the Windies Women posted 246 for five from their allocation of 50 overs, after they chose to bat in the second One-day International on another hard, easy-paced Warner Park pitch. Stafanie Taylor supported with 50 from 41 balls that included three fours and two sixes, left-hander opener Kycia Knight made a chancy 48 and Shemaine Campbelle got 27.
Mohammed then grabbed 4-32 from her allotment of 10 overs, putting the skids on the New Zealanders before they were bowled out for 181 in 45.3 overs.
Taylor and left-arm spinner Shanel Daley captured two wickets apiece in the face of defiant Sophie Devine, whose 89 from 93 balls was the top score for the White Ferns before she became the last of Mohammed scalps in the 44th over with 68 required.
The Caribbean side gained another valuable two points that will count towards their tally in the IWC.
