Hashim Arcia secured a third straight lien on the Digicel Charity Shield for W Connection after his first-half strike earned his team a 1-0 win over Central FC in the curtain raiser to the 2014/2015 Digicel T&T Pro League season at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva on Saturday.
Arcia, who was eventually voted the "Most Valuable Player" for a second consecutive time after also starring in last year's 4-2 win over Defence Force, slipped past his markers on the right of the area and upon entering the 18-yard box, fired a low strike past goalkeeper Jan-Michael Williams at his near post in the 39th minute.
Earlier on, W Connection created the first chances through left-back Kurt Frederick, in the 11th and 36th minutes, but the St Lucia international failed to force saves out of Williams while 19-year-old debutant, Aaquil Campbell hit the side netting in the 18th.
Central's best chance of the fist-half fell to former national youth striker Qian Grosvenor with a powerful 20-yard right footed effort, but it was parried overbar by an alert Julani Archibald in goal for W Connection.
Two minutes into the second-half, Leston Paul wasted a golden chance to get Central level, as his weak attempt was comfortably held by Archibald from a Sean De Silva feed.
And at the other end of the field Campbell almost made Central pay, but he blasted over from inside the six-yard box after some sloppy defending by veteran Marvin Oliver presented him with a gift.
With the seconds ticking away Central pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but was denied in stoppage time as Archibald did well to keep out a deflected De Silva attempt.
And on the resulting corner, even Central goalkeeper Williams, who made an earlier save against Jerrel Britto, joined his team-mates inside the W Connection area, and was forced to retreat desperately following a counter-attack by the 'Savonnetta Boys'.
Luckily, Williams' side avoided possible embarrassment when Rochford sacrificed himself to a yellow card with a foul on Connection's St Lucian debutant Jamil Joseph, halting the 'Savonnetta Boys' attack 25-yards out.
However at the final whistle, W Connection which blanked Defence Force 2-0 in the inaugural final two years ago, had completed its task of making it a hat-trick of Charity Shield crowns and the $10,000 prize.
Speaking after the match Arcia said, "It's the first game of the season and we tried to play a team game. It was a good win for our team, especially for our (T&T) Under-20 players that weren't part of the squad tonight (Saturday)."
Charles-Fevrier added, "I'm pleased with the win and pleased with our performance tonight. It's a good start for our confidence. It was a tough game but I thought we managed it well. I was pleased with the performance because I know that we are not 100 per cent right now in our form."
Last season Charles-Fevrier, led W Connection to five titles, the Digicel Pro League, the T&T Football Federation FA Trophy, Toyota Classic, Digicel Pro Bowl and Charity Shield and four more titles to defend as well as competing in the Caribbean Club Championship, the qualifier to the Concacaf Champions League, the St Lucian-born coach said that winning the match will surely boost his side's confidence.
Central FC won the two other titles at stake last year, the First Citizens Cup and Lucozade Sport Goal Shield.
