A second half surge and a flurry of own goals moved Trinity College, Trincity, all the way into second place in the BGTT Secondary Schools Football League Premier Division standings, when the East Zone school trounced rock-bottom East Mucurapo, 4-1, yesterday.Trincity will hold second place, at least temporarily, due to the postponement of two matches involving teams previously ranked higher. The meeting between league leader, St Anthony's College and San Juan North, as well as the fixture between previous second-placed St Benedict's, were both postponed due to waterlogged pitches after yesterday's heavy showers.
Trinity scored all four goals in the second half starting with two East Mucurapo own goals in the 50th and 60th minutes, before Season Bonval made sure of the win with a double in the 64th and 77th minutes, respectively. Travell Edwards scored Mucurapo's only goal just before Bonval's second in the 73rd.Meanwhile, St Mary's suffered its first loss of the season, 3-2, playing away from home at Guaracara Park, to Shiva Boys Hindu College. In contrast, Fatima College returned to winning ways with a narrow 1-0 victory over Arima North.
Action also took place in the Championship Division, with Queen's Royal College maintaining its 100 percent winning in the North Zone with a comfortable 4-1 win over Malick. In the South Zone, Point Fortin East remained unbeaten at the top of the standings with a 1-1 draw. Pleasantville moved from fourth to joint second with a 2-1 win over previously unbeaten Fyzabad, while Vessigny claimed its first win for the season courtesy a 2-1 victory over Mayaro.
In the Central Zone, two matches failed to kick off for different reasons. Tabaquite's home ground was deemed unfit by officials after the grass was not cut. The reason was given was that the field was too damp for the machinery to function. Presentation College Chaguanas' clash with Couva East also failed to kick off as one official reached to the venue 45 minutes after the scheduled kick off time. The only match played in the zone resulted in a 1-0 win for ASJA Boys over Vishnu Boys.Thankfully, all matches scheduled in Tobago were played and Signall Hill remained unbeaten and in the lead among the seven teams with a 4-1 whipping of winless Bishop's High.
