A high profile team of football administrators including TT Pro League CEO Dexter Skeene, W Connection president David John Williams and former T&T head coach Everal "Gally" Cummings" will be in Barbados for the Soccerex Americas Forum which starts today and concludes tomorrow.
Some of the delegates arrived in Barbados over the weekend, while others reached yesterday.
Along with the named trio, other T&T delegates also made the trip including, Julian John and Peter Mc Davis (San Juan Jabloteh board members), DirecTV general manager Bernard Pantin, David Martin and Renee John-Williams (W Connection chairman and general secretary, respectively), Fifa instructor Alvin Corneal, MACO magazine editor-in-chief Cassie-Marie St John, Kyrstal Lashley and Narada Wilson (The Brazil Link project co-ordinator and sport executive, respectively).
Wilson, who has participated in two Soccerex events in Brazil, was given the task of advocating and assisting the event in its first appearance in the Caribbean.
"I have dealt with Soccerex for a couple years and even was close to having the TTFA partake last year before it was cancelled in Brazil," Wilson said.
"Information is easy to share but living the experience makes it easy for things to be understood. Over the last year I have been rallying for the Caribbean but more so Trinidad to have a presence at Soccerex," he added.
The TBL Sports executive had the opportunity to speak to few stakeholders about the event and is satisfied with the composition of the group that will make the trip to Barbados.
"The hope is that in the future more clubs, administrators and businesses would partake but more importantly via the exhibitor's route. This however is the first step, have the personnel attend as delegates which gives them the opportunity to attend the forums, interact and exchange contacts with others in the industry worldwide, from players to sponsors etcetera," he said.
Wilson said one person guaranteed to make a mark at the event for the first time will be John-Williams (David), one of four panelists.
Soccerex is the world's largest football exhibition and forum. This year, the two day event is being held in conjunction with Barbados Tourism Marketing to promote football growth and development across the Concacaf confederation.
Jeffery Webb (President of Concacaf), Phil Rawlins (Co-owner of Orlando City FC), former players John Barnes and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and companies such as Hilton, Marka Sports, SportsMax will be a few of those taking part in the event.
