The national men's table tennis team lost to Cuba A 3-0 yesterday and will most likely finish third overall at the Caribbean Region Table Tennis Federation (CRTTF) Senior Table Tennis Championships in Cuba.
T&T won its opening match of the tournament 3-2 in the best-of-five series against French Guiana. T&T, which includes Arun Roopnarine, David Mahabir, Alaric Humphreys and Everton Sorzano, then went down 3-0 to Dominican Republic, but bounced back to defeat Martinique 3-0.
Yesterday T&T was overwhelmed by the Cuban A team. Roopnarine went down in straight sets to Jorge Campos 11-8, 12-10, 11-5. Mahabir fought hard for T&T but lost in four sets to Yohan Mora. Mora prevailed 11-8, 13-11, 9-11, 11-5. Livan Martinez wrapped up the series for Cuba with an 11-7, 11-7, 11-6 win over Humphreys.
With a win against Cuba B in round five T&T will most likely win bronze behind Cuba A and Dominican Republic.
