KUALA LUMPUR–Former West Indies pacer Jermaine Lawson went wicket-less as United States crashed to a five-wicket loss to hosts Malaysia, in their second game of the International Cricket Council World Cricket League Division Three 50-overs tournament yesterday.The right-armer, who played 13 Tests for West Indies, sent down eight overs for 44 runs and watched as Malaysia chased down their target of 187 at the Bayumas Oval.
Shafiq Sharif stroked 59 not out and Suharril Fetri, 55, to lead the successful run chase while off-spinner Karan Ganesh took two for 26.Sent in, the US were languishing at 124 for seven in the 44th over before Adil Bhatti, batting at number eight, arrived to play a blinder, smashing a top score of 42 from just 21 balls.He added 55 off 31 balls for the eighth wicket with Lawson whose unbeaten 16 came from 13 balls and included two fours.
In Thursday's first round of games, Lawson snatched three wickets in the US's win over Bermuda.Bermuda, meanwhile, lost their second straight, going down by eight wickets to Nepal at Selangor Turf Club.Sent in, the Bermudians were bundled out for 100 off 40.1 overs, with Christian Burgess (28) and Tre Manders (21) two of only four batsmen to reach double figures.In the other game at Kinrara Academy Oval, Uganda beat Uganda by one run, off the last ball of the game.
