Queen's Royal College (QRC) and Fyzabad Secondary both booked their places in next year's Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Premier Division following Championship Division Big-Eight semifinal wins over Princes Town West and Trinity College, respectively, yesterday.QRC, which captured the Championship North Zone title recently, booked a spot in the final of the Big-Eight competition with a 10 win over Princes Town West Secondary, but more importantly, one of three promotion spots to join T&T's elite schools.
Fyzabad defeated Trinity College (North), 41, which also meant promotion to the Premier Division. The third promotion spot will go to the winner of the Big-Eight third-place playoff, between Princes Town West and Trinity, which will be played on Tuesday, at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Port-of-Spain, from 5 pm. The final between QRC and Fyzabad will take place on Monday at a venue to be announced.
Josiah Williams scored the deciding goal for QRC, yesterday, on the hour-mark, to see QRC sneak past Princes Town, which earned a semifinal spot after winning all of its Group A matches. The runner-up in Group A, Trinity College, also had little luck against Group B winner, Fyzabad, which scored two goals in either half for an easy win.Dillon Lord and Phillip Felmin scored in the 20th and 27th minutes, respectively, before Felmin scored his second goal in the 57th minute. Trinity College pulled one back to make it 31 in the 76th minute, just moments before Fyzabad put the final nail in Trinity's coffin from yet another goal from stand-out Simeon Pierre.
Today, the final round of Premier Division Big-four matches will be played. Naparima College and St Anthony's College, both on six points from two wins, will meet at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella, in the deciding round-robin fixture. Naparima, the Premier Division champion school, will need only a draw to lift its second title, while St Anthony's will need a win because of its inferior goal difference. San Juan North and Speyside Secondary, both with no points from two matches, will play at the former team's home venue.
