West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) president Dave Cameron will face the heat this weekend, as he attends the International Cricket Council (ICC) last round of meetings for the year at the headquarters in Dubai. The meeting started officially Wednesday but Cameron left for Dubai earlier in the week to have a series of meetings with the different stakeholders, concerning his team's aborted tour of India last month, due to a players payment structure dispute. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has sent a formal request for compensation following the pull out. They have asked for US$41.97m in damages and indicated to the WICB that this is not the final figure. They have given the WICB 15 days to respond officially in writing, the steps they are going to take to repay the money.
Just this week as the ICC directors headed to the oil rich Dubai, secretary of the BCCI Sanjay Patel reminded that the BCCI is very serious about the lawsuit and they are going forward to reclaim their money.Cameron will come head to head with BCCI president N Srinivasan, who is also the president of the ICC. Cheering the meeting will be BCCI's representative to the ICC Narayanaswami Srinivasan. The other ICC members will also have a say and some of them have already indicated that they want both boards to work out the situation amicably. The ICC will also take a formal position on the matter and will reveal this tomorrow.
Over the last few days some of the committees of the ICC have been meeting. On Wednesday last, the women's committee met and this was followed by another meeting by the chief executives' committee on Thursday. The audit committee and the development committee met on Friday. Yesterday, the finance and commercial committee and the governance review committee got together last evening and today the big boys take to the boardroom for their general meeting. In addition to the West Indies/India issue, some of the other key issues likely to be discussed are the outcomes from the ICC CEC on matters relating to the FTP, playing conditions for the ICC Cricket World Cup, 2015 and suspected illegal bowling actions.
Also recommendations from the executive committee, including in respect of a revised ICC anti-corruption code, a revised ICC anti-doping code and an update on the recent work of the Integrity Working Party and an update on the ICC 2015 World Cup.
