Brendon Ramlal copped the coveted Cricketer of the Year award as the South West Zone of the T&T Cricket Board held its annual awards function at the Fyzabad Secondary School, recently.
Ramlal is the national Under-13 coach and captain of Division One winners Fyzabad Elite Cricket Club. He displayed his all-round ability winning ten individual awards including the prestigious Cricketer of the Year accolade.
He also collected prizes for hitting two centuries (151 vs Avocat and 102 vs All Stars) with his score of 151 being the highest individual score. Ramlal also had the best bowling average (6.5) in Division One of the zone.
In the National Energy T20, Ramlal won prizes for most runs (205) which included three half centuries and the highest score of 73 against Standard Sports. In the Atlantic LNG/WIPA T20 he copped the awards for best bowling performance in a match (6 for 15 vs All Stars), and most wickets (11).
Also in the limelight and collecting several awards was Fyzabad Elite's opening batsman Akil Pierre for his performances which comprised two centuries (103 vs Avocat and 103 not out vs Standard Sports), most runs (366) and best batting average (86).
Before a large and appreciative audience, South West Zone officials distributed over one hundred prizes to clubs and players in the forms of cash and trophies. President of the T&T Cricket Board Azim Bassarath in his feature address challenged the zone executive to rekindle the energy that made the zone a force to be reckoned with in the 1980s.
The representative from the National Energy Corporation (NEC), the zone's main sponsor, Sheila Mc Intosh, congratulated all the outstanding cricketers and urged them to continue working hard and to use the positive lessons learned on the cricket field in their day to day lives.
Chairman of the South West Zone, Ramesh Dharamdeo, in his address thanked sponsors National Energy Corporation for their continued support and promised to continue working with the T&T Cricket Board to see growth and development in the zone. He urged club representatives to get more involved in the zone's business.
