St Kitts/Nevis midfielder, Gerard Williams was voted as the senior Player of the Year when DirecTV W Connection celebrated its 15th anniversary with an awards ceremony and dinner at the Point-a-Pierre Staff Club on December 7.
The 26-year-old Williams, who has been with the club for more than five years played a key role in the team's record fifth Digicel T&T Pro League title triumph and won the award ahead of double award recipient on the night, Joevin Jones, Daneil Cyrus, Hashim Arcia, Alvin Jones and Suriname's Stefano Rijssel.
Williams also got special praise from the club's technical director and coach, St Lucian-born Stuart Charles-Fevrier who noted that the Kittian one of the best defensive mid-fielders in the club's history and professional football in T&T.
Despite the position being under-rated Charles-Fevrier noted that the role Gerard played for the club since his arrival in 2007 is just as significant as any of the former high profile forwards and defenders that have played for the Savonetta Boys.
The 22-year-old Jones who earlier this month signed with US Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire was the lone senior category double-winner as he was named as the club's Best Midfielder and Most Goals" awardee on the night Joevin, was not the only member of his family taking home awards on the night as younger sibling Alvin Jones, who made his national senior team debut in the Caribbean Football Union Cup semifinal round at home, was voted as the club's Most Improved Player.
National defender Daneil Cyrus captured the Best Defender award, Hashim Arcia "Most Disciplined Player" and while Suriname import, Stefano Rijssel was the Best Striker.
Among the youth players, 17-year-old goalkeeper Akeem Awong was outstanding between the uprights for the club and clinched the Most Valuable Player and Most Improved Player Awards.
In the youth category players were recognized awards for the Most Valuable Player, Most Improved Player, Most Disciplined Player, Most Promising Player and Most Goals Scored for the 2013/2014 Youth Pro League Season in which the under-16 team triumphed. Due to its success the Under-16 team toured four-time World Cup champions Italy, becoming the first Caribbean Club team to do so, playing world renowned teams namely AC Milan, Inter Milan, Hellas Verona and Udinese.
Special recognition was given to long standing Staff members of W Connection and self-proclaimed number one fan, Twain Wallace, who was presented with a 2014/2015 replica team jersey.
The President's award was created by club owner David John-Williams to recognize an individual who has given years of loyal and selfless service to W Connection. It was first awarded to former stalwart players and current coaches, Earl Jean and Elijah Joseph in 2008 and 2013 respectively.
And on Sunday (December 7), Claudia Enda Fevrier wife of veteran coach Stuart Charles-Fevrier became the first non-player to receive this prestigious club honour.
According to John-Williams, she displayed all of the aforementioned virtues, since she gave up her life and job in St Lucia to follow her husband in his coaching career in T&T and plays an important role behind the scenes.
Renowned radio personality Selwyn Melville was the master of ceremonies for the event, which included guests such as Caledonia AIA coach Jamaal Shabazz, Central FC coach Zoran Vranes and former strike squad players Leonson Lewis (U14 coach) and Kelvin Jones.
