Patrick Rampersad the long serving cricket administrator has taken over the National League, which takes care of the top flight of domestic cricket.
The Merryboys president is not new to the job having held the position some eight years ago. He replaces Stephen Martel who has not been in the best of health recently. Rampersad speaking to Guardian Media yesterday said :"It is with honour that I take over the reigns of the national league once again. We have a lot of work to do and we intend to move the sport forward as quickly as we can. The national league is critical in having a strong national team because the quality of cricket played here will determine the men who go on to play for T&T.
"There is much to do and we intend to work together for the betterment of the sport we all love. I am happy to belong to a executive led by Azim Bassarath, who has a clear cut idea of where they want to take the game and this will make our work easier."
Rampersad, who also sits on the executive of the T&TCB is a valued member of the Bassarath-led TTCB and has found great favour with his leader. Speaking on his appointment Bassarath said :"We are happy that Patrick will be taking over the national league at this point. The entire executive of the TTCB has full confidence in his ability and he has proven before that he is very capable of serving well. The national league is our premier tournament locally and needs a strong minded individual to run the show. Patrick coming from a business background had varied experience and this would help add to the value he brings to cricket at the national league level."
