Goal shoot Shaquanda Green was a dominant figure as she defended champions University of T&T (UTT) to a commanding 45-17 victory over Prisons in Alternative Division of the 25th edition of the Courts All Sectors Netball League on Tuesday night.
Playing at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena, Orange Grove Road, Tacarigua, Green converted on 33 of her 54 attempts for her team to open a 5-2 first quarter advantage to a 20-7 lead at the half.
The trio of Oprah Douglas (5/11), Safiya Fortune (4/15) and Chrisann Petrovani (3/7) chipped in to add to UTT's winning tally while goal shoot, La Vaughn O'Neil had ten from 25 and Rhonita Williams, seven from 11 for Prisons in the loss.
Earlier on the night, in a much closer contest, Police goal shoot Tahirah Hollingsworth scored 15 of 23 attempts in her team's 27-23 defeat of Fideas.
The duo of Cheryse Aguillera with eight of 12, and Gabriella Bridgewater, four of seven also contributed for Police which break open a 10-all half-time score to lead narrowly at the end of the third, 19-17.
Kelly James led Fideas with 16 goals from 24 attempts, Anita Pitt-Russell got five from seven, and Christine Snaggs, two from three.
On Monday night, Bermudez and Les Enfants both made winning starts when the Retro Division.
In the opener, goal attack Sherry Thomas converted 16 of 28 attempts while former national duo, goal attack Muriel Mitchell, 14 of 19 and goal shoot Althea Mc Collin added three from five, for Bermudez in its 33 15 beating of Harlem.
Goal shoot Denise Rose led Harlem with 13 goals from 28 attempts and goal attack Antoinette Jackson, two of eight as the losers managed to stay close for the first quarter, 4-4 before fading away to trail 9-14 at the half, and 12-22 by the end of the third quarter.
The second match on the night was a much closer contest with goal attack Michelle Boyce leading Les Enfants to a narrow 21-18 victory over TSTT.
Les Enfants which opened up for a 9-8 lead at the half, following a 4-4 first quarter deadlock and 14-13 at the end of the third period also got seven valuable goals from 16 attempts by goal shooter Joanne Payne.
Goal attack Susan Squires tallied ten from 17 and goal attack Camille Aubin eight of 15 for TSTT.
Today, in the Alternative category, USC faces TSTT from 5.30pm followed by Fideas against Prisons, at 6.45pm while on Saturday Fire Service start defence of both its Championship and Premier League titles.
