Right-handed batsman Adrian Cooper slammed 132 to give Jenexcon Tableland a solid start against Powergen in the Shanghai Construction Group Premiership One National League at Tableland yesterday.
Cooper's top knock guided Tableland to 337/7 at the end of the opening day yesterday in the first round of the season. Cooper was ably supported by Chanderpaul Hemraj who contributed 68, while Brent Harriot struck an unbeaten 40 at the end of the day to boost the team's total. Bowling for Powergen the spin duo of Kavesh Kantasingh (2/82) and Sherwin Ganga (2/50) both snatched two wickets.
At the Queen's Park Oval, the Parkites made a strong start to the season led by national player Kevon Cooper. Cooper grabbed 4/15 as Clarke Road was bundled out for 58 batting first. Tion Webster and West Indies spinner Sunil Narine also caused problems taking 3/25 and 2/6 respectively.
In reply, Queen's Park made 190 all out behind 54 from Petrock Nicholas and 48 from Cooper. Mark Deyal was the top bowler for Clarke Road grabbing 4/30. Queen's Park captain Kieron Pollard could only contribute four to the total. Clarke Road closed its second innings on 36/2 with Narine taking both wickets.
At Charlieville, Victoria Utd made a positive start in the top flight. Victoria, which earned promotion this season reduced Alescon Comets to 163 all out as Garey Mathurin snatched 4/44 and Denesh Ramdanee took 3/23. Former national youth player Stephen Wharwood fought hard for Comets scoring 61.
Brandon Jaggernauth led the response for Victoria with 72 to guide the newcomers to 111/3 at stumps. Kissoondath Magram tried his best to contain Victoria, taking 2/37.
Today the same fixtures are carded in the 50-over competition, while the first round of the three-day national league matches will conclude next weekend (Saturday and Sunday).
