A brilliant 253-run second-wicket partnership between Jonathan Hirst and Amir Jangoo gave leaders Fatima an emphatic 241-run win over Princes Town West in the fifth round of the Powergen Secondary Schools 50-over Cricket League at Fatima Ground, Port-of-Spain, yesterday.
The left-handed pair propelled Fatima to a massive 358/4 batting first. Hirst slammed 17 fours and three sixes in his knock of 134, while Jangoo, who is a West Indies Under-19 player, struck 14 fours and one six in his innings of 112.
Sean Persaud also boosted the home team's total with an unbeaten 38, while Peterson Francios tried his best tocontain the Fatima batsmen, taking 3/48 in nine overs.
Persaud also played his part with the ball, snatching 3/11 in ine overs as Princes Town could only muster 117 all out. Anand Lochan (2/5) and Donavon Clayton (2/6) both took two wickets. Francois top scored for the visitors with 46 and Jonathan Williams pitched in with 26.
At Avidesh Samaroo Park in Endeavour, defending champions Vishnu Boys had a setback, going down by seven wickets to Barrackpore West. Vishnu could only make 57 in 19.1 overs, before Barrackpore got to 58/3 in 11.3 overs.
