Attractive T&T left handed batsman Darren Bravo will be assessed on Friday and if he is still behind in recovering from his hamstring injury, it is likely that he will be sent home from the ICC Cricket World Cup currently playing in Australia and New Zealand.
The dapper left-hander got injured while going for a single against Pakistan in West Indies' second match of the tournament. He was at the time batting well on 49. Earlier in his innings he was also struck on the head by Younis Khan while going for a run. This laid him flat on the turf but had nothing to do with the injury he picked up a few overs later. Initially he was treated by team physiotherapist CJ Clarke but was then taken to a local clinic in Christchurch for the extent of damage to the hamstring to be assessed.
Media officer attached to the West Indies team said at the end of the game that Bravo will be out for the next two matches at least, while he recuperates. However it is understood that the situation at present with the Queen's Park man is 'touch and go' and if he doesn't show marked improvement by the end of this week, a decision may be taken to send him home and get a replacement.
The West Indies team management will then have to apply to the ICC World Cup Tournament Committee to get permission to fly someone in. Against Zimbabwe, Bravo's position in the team was taken by Barbadian left-hander Jonathan Carter but he was not required to bat as Chris Gayle 215 and Marlon Samuels 133 not out, created a record partnership in getting the West Indies highest score ever, 372/2 in ODI cricket.
