Paragon picked up the last title at stake in the 2014/2015 Northern Football Association season when it edged long-time rival Maple FC 2-1 on penalty-kicks after a 1-1 draw in the Shanghai Construction Group-sponsored Superstar Cup at the Nelson Mandela Park, St Clair on Thursday night.
Going into the contest, Paragon was heavy favourites, having won its meeting with the NFA FA winners 4-0 in round-robin play, and it was no surprise when it went ahead in the 19th minute through the prolific Asim James.
However, 11 minutes into the second-half of the 70-minute final on a rainy night, Matthew Waldron got Maple level to send the match to penalties, where his team came up short.
For its victory, Paragon collected $10,000 while Maple had to settle for the $6,000 runner-up prize. Paragon's Curtis Roberts also received $1,000 after he was voted as the tournament's MVP.
