Diamond Joel , one of nine 'decs' for the Maiden Stakes over 12 furlongs of Wolverhampton Tapeta tonight, will be ridden by Joe Fanning; there's a reason for everything!
Presumably this twice-raced Youmzain colt is fancied despite an absence of 107 days; in any case when has veteran trainer Mick Channon ever sent one out 'needing a run' from his West Ilsley based where former tenant, Major Dick Hern, trained Nashwan?
On the time-handicap Diamond Joel should win, by default, it's a moderate race, at best; one thing is guaranteed, stamina!
This 'new' sire was tremendous, runner-up in several prestigious races, including the group one Arc de Triomphe, three times, in addition to several profile successes. An exciting stud prospect, wonder how many Channon will train!
Incidentally the obvious reason why Diamond Joel is so lightly raced, he's a May 26th foal and doubtless needed time to mature; if he doesn't win this...!
Should be well worth exercising patience for the last race of the day which earlier features three jumping fixtures, Leicester, Ayr and Sandown where it's a theme 'military' kicking off the two-day(s) March 'Imperial Cup' meeting.
I'll be spending time on sorting out the winner of the time-honoured Saturday feature; two years ago we landed 20/1 winner, First Avenue, and I've already got a strong fancy which you can read about tomorrow when the www.dailyearner.co.uk service will be on line. Don't miss out.
