Fresh off the first 50-plus point tally of the season in the Courts All Sectors Netball League on Thursday last, University of T&T goalshooter Jameela Mc Carthy was at it again, as she poured in a new league season-high 63 goals from 72 attempts in her team's 70-13 thrashing of Police in the Alternative Division on Tuesday.
Goal-attack Shannon Duncan added the other seven goals from 15 attempts for UTT which improved its record to a perfect 8-0 and maximum 16 points, four clear of second placed TSTT which it faces tomorrow, and within a point of the retaining its title at Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena, Tacarigua.
Cheryse Aguilleria converted ten of 15 attempts and Tahira Hollingsworth, three from 11, for the hapless Police which fell behind 2-14 at the end of the first quarter and 6-32 at the half.
In the night's other match, the University of Southern Caribbean inspired by Afiya O'Shaughnessy's 31 from 46, and Gabriella Gooding 11 from 21 overwhelmed Prisons 42-36. La Vaughn O'Neil was the lone player in double-figure for Prisons with 27 from 43 attempts.
On Monday night, goalshooter Patrice Goring was near perfect with 40 goals from 44 attempts as Police X doused title-holder Fire Service 51-40 to move a step closer to claiming the Championship Division crown.
Former national player Beverly Hernandez added 11 goals from 15 attempts for the "Law-women", who led 12-7, 25-22 and 41-30 at the end of the first three quarters.
Former national youth player Aquila Blugh was the main scorer for Fire Service, but she only converted on 29 of her 53 attempts as her team failed to cope without goal-attack and former national youth captain Nariba Grant.
The win was the sixth from as many matches for Polic X, now with maximum 12 points at the top of the table, and six ahead of Fire Service which has a match in hand while Jabloteh and Bermudez, the only other teams still in contention have four points each.
Earlier on the night, Bermudez dethroned TSTT as Retro Division champions with a 33-17 victory in their top-of-the-table clash.
For Bermudez, Debra Beckles sank 30 of her 40 shots on goal and Sharda Thomas added three from four attempts to carry their points tally to maximum ten from five matches, and one left to play.
TSTT, which needed a win to keep its hopes of repeating stayed on four points with the loss, got a team-high nine goals from 16 attempts by Olivia Le Platte, while Debra Alie added eight from as many attempts.
