Last placed Esmeralda is giving defending champions Merry Boys a run for its money in the Shanghai Construction Group Premiership One National League, as Shemroy Barrington cracked 149 to leave the match interestingly poised heading into today's final day at Esmeralda.
After second placed Merry Boys declared on its overnight 315/7 in the first innings, Barrington's knock led Esmeralda to 265 all out, a 50-run deficit on first innings.
Barrington, who struck 15 fours and three sixes, was ably supported by Hakeem Mitchell who scored 49. Barbadian Ryan Hinds was the chief destroyer grabbing 6/60 for Merry Boys.
The defending champions got off to a disastrous start in its second innings, closing on five runs for three wickets. Ahkeel Mollon (1/1) and Uthman Mohammed (1/4) took one wicket apiece while the other batsman was run out.
At Gilbert Park, California, Queen's Park will be hoping for an outright win today to maintain its position at the top of the table.
After declaring on 201/8 in the first innings early in the day, Queen's Park dismissed Caldrac for 90 in the first innings. Khary Pierre was the top bowler for the Parkites snatching 4/26, while Sunil Narine (3/27) and Javon Searles (3/34) both took three wickets.
Queen's Park closed the day on 183/9 in the second innings, an overall lead of 294 runs. Petrock Nicholas and national player Kevon Cooper were the top scorers scoring 42 and 30 respectively.
