National cyclist Quincy Alexander won gold in the Men's Sprint event on day two of the Easter International Cycling Grand Prix at Arima Velodrome, yesterday.
In the final Alexander defeated Argentine Pablo Javier Perruchoud to claim the top prize. It was a successful event for T&T, as national riders Justin Roberts, Jude Codrington and Azikwe Kellar rounded off the top five. In the qualifying round, Alexander (10.735) and Perruchoud (11.173) recorded the fastest times.
National junior cyclist Kollyn St George won silver in the women's sprint, finishing behind American Dana Feiss in the final. Grabbing bronze was St George's national junior teammate Keiana Lester, while Jodi Goodridge (T&T) came fourth.
St George was in scintillating form in the qualifying round, becoming the first woman T&T cyclist to go under 13 seconds at the Arima Velodrome when she broke the tape in 12.957 seconds. In the international men's seven-lap final, Jamol Eastmond and Darren Matthews made it a one-two finish for Barbados ahead of T&T's Adam Alexander.
Half of the races scheduled for the opening night on Friday were postponed because of rain. As a result, races began at 10 am yesterday to make up for lost time.
