Digicel T&T Pro League leaders Central FC will make its debut in the Caribbean Football Union Club Championship when it faces Inter Moengotapoe of Suriname at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, Guyana from 4 pm, today.It is the only match in the three-team Group One series which ends on Sunday at the same venue with Central FC facing host club, Alpha United which leads the table with three points following its 3-0 defeat of the Surinamese on Wednesday.
Central FC has enjoyed a very productive 2014/2015 campaign thus far, having already won the First Citizens Cup and two rounds of the Pro League while it is also a win away from claiming a maiden Pro League crown.And led by the experience former England international, Terry Fenwick, the club is confident that its first overseas trip will be successful.
Despite it being the clubs first campaign in the top Caribbean club tournament, a number of players have played in the tournament before inclusive of goalkeeper Jan-Michael Williams, Elton John, Kevon Villaroel, Jason Marcano, Sean de Silva, Marvin Oliver, Keion Goodridge, Marcelle Francois, Willis Plaza and Ataullah Guerra as members of W Connection, Play Whe San Juan Jabloteh, Puerto Rico Islands and the now defunct, Joe Public.
Missing out for Central FC will be former national Under-20 defender, Uriah Bentick who picked up a knee ligament injury during a training session last week.Throughout Inter's roster are the names of numerous Suriname internationals, including goalkeeper Obrindo Huiswoud; defenders Joel Baja and Giovanni Asabigie; as well as forwards Stefano Rijssel, formerly of T&T's DirecTV W Connection and Romano Holtuin.
