?Reigning Carifta and CAC Junior girls' under 20 shot put champion Portious Warren finished second in the High Schools Girls' shot put event on the opening day of action of the 2015 Penn Relays at Franklyn Field, Pennsylvania, USA on Thursday.
Representing St Augustine Secondary, Warren got the iron ball out to 14.69m to finish in the runner up spot behind Nickolette Dunbar of Whippany Park High School (New Jersey) who had to produce a new Penn Relay record of 15.44m to deny Warren.
The sixth former took the lead in the first round with 14.61, before Dunbar went ahead in the second round with 14.63 and unleashed the record throw in the third (15.44). Warren won the women's shot put at the 4th President's Classic at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo on April 18 before heading off to Pennsylvania. Iley Bruce (St Benedict's College) finished down the field in the High Schools Boys 3000m in 22nd (9:36.71).
Bishop's High (Tobago) 4x100m team was the lone local relay team to qualify for a championships race. Bishops, led by Carifta boys under 18 200m gold medallist, Akanni Hislop, finished eighth in the High Schools' small finals with 42.88 which was held last Friday. Akanni's younger brother Ako, Aaron Lewis and Dwight St Hillaire qualified for the finals placing eighth overall in the heats last Thursday in a time 42.88 set in winning heat 20.
Queen's Royal College (Ronaldo Moore, Clement Campbell, Shomari John, Jerod Elcock) was 15th-43.40, with Toco Secondary (Terrel Paul, Tyrel Edwards, Troy Richards, Sheldon Solomon), 37th-44.36. Scarborough Secondary (Taffarel Joseph, Jonathan Baker, Nku Henry, Lashawn Roberts,) 131st-45.81 and El Dorado West (Trevin Thomas, Jurell Veris, Hakeem Stewart, Rakim Cabie) 280th–50.45 finished behind.
St Francois Girls was the top local finisher in the High Schools Girls 4x100m (small) heats placing 25th. The team of Jeneil Morris, Kadesha Presoctt, Jeminise Parris, Thyla-Marie Scott clocked to win heat 4. Bishop Anstey (Akilah Lewis, J'Da Bullen, Deleth Charles, Jeunice Maxime) was next at 35th in 50.29 with St Joseph Convent POS (Antonia Barker, Anna-Lise Nanton, Anthinise Barker, Rae-Anne Serville) 51.79 in 85th. El Dorado West (Thea Roberts, Jodiah McSween, Stephanie Stapleton, Atisha Morrison) was 91st-52.06, ahead of Bishops High (Jasher DeGannes, Jamellia Potts, Nkoni Waldrons, Anya Akili)118th-53.66 and Toco Secondary (Kerneka Waldron, Mikayla Ottley, Faith Tinto, Cheziah Phillip) in 200th-53.87. Bishops High was also 14th in their heat of the High Schools Girls (small) 4x400m in 4:41.74.
In the High Schools Boys' 4x100m (large) Fatima College (Micaiah Joseph, Xavier Mulugata, Bevon Gordon, Alexei Nicholas) was 32nd 9n 43.82. QRC (Jesse Frederick, Keivonne Alexander, Elijah Smith, Joshua St Clair) was 4th in their section of the High Schools boys' 4x400m with St Benedict's College (Akeem Alexis, David Winchester, Kushaun Joachim, Xavierri Williams) 8th their race. Toco Secondary (Troy Richards, Terrel Paul, Sheldon Solomon, Tyrell Edwards) finished 11th in their event.
