Tyler Cole and Varun Maharajh both won omnium titles on the third day of competition at the National Track Cycling Championships at the Arima Velodrome, on Sunday.Maharajh of Rigtech Sonics, who was in a tough battle with his clubmate Akil Campbell throughout the elite men's omnium, won the points race after lapping the field six times to clinch the six-race event ahead of Campbell and Gavyn Nero.
Cole won the junior men's omnium ahead of Ramon Belmontes and Nicholas Paul. A lot was expected of Cole after the Rigtech Sonics rider won bronze in the men's omnium at the Junior Pan American Cycling Championships in Mexico last month.Team Drive Phase Sport rider Jude Codrington broke the track record in the elite men's standing 250m event in a time of 18.672 seconds.
Jonathan Harding was a distant second in 19.355.Njisane Phillip and Jodi Goodridge made their way to the top of the podium again, this time in the keirin events. Phillip won gold ahead of Quincy Alexander and Kwesi Browne in the elite men's keirin, while Goodridge grabbed the top prize in the elite women's keirin ahead of Aziza Browne and Cheyenne Awai.
Phillip and Goodridge won the elite sprint events on Sunday.Action in the elite and junior segment of the Championships concluded yesterday, while the masters will compete from Friday-Sunday.
