Pt Fortin Civic will be going all out for maximum points against Police FC to grab fourth spot when the curtain comes down on the 2014/2015 Digicel T&T Pro League season from 8pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva tonight.
With the top three spots already decided, after Central FC claimed a maiden league crown and the $1 million prize ahead of last year's winner DirecTV W Connection and Defence Force, the battle for fourth spot was left wide open after Japs North East Stars failed to take full points in its match with Caledonia AIA on Saturday, in a 1-1 draw.
As it stands, the Terry Fenwick-coached Central FC which started the season under the stewardship of Yugoslavian-born former T&T coach Zoran Vranes topped the table with 55 points from its 24-match schedule to add to the First Citizens Cup, Rawle Fletcher (Round One), Akeem Adams (Round Two) and Kevon Carter (Third Round) trophies which carry a pay package of $35,0000 it also won.
Six points behind in second spot is W Connection after it went under to Play Whe San Juan Jabloteh, 3-2 in its final match on Friday, with the runner-up prize of $300,000 already certain.Defence Force also suffered a shock 1-2 loss to St Ann's Rangers, but was also guaranteed third spot with 39 points and $150,000 while Stars ended with 34 points, one more than Pt Fortin Civic which will also finish ahead of its rival, with a draw as it has a better goal-difference.
While it may seem unlikely, Pt Fortin striker Marcus Joseph will also have a last chance of taking the "Golden Boot" award, but will need a stellar performance to do so.Defence Force striker, Devorn Jorsling, the all-time Pro League top scorer with 136 goals, leads the table with 21, six ahead of Central FC's Ataulla Guerra and Joseph, with the latter being the only one of the two who has a match remaining.
Jorsling was also the Pro League's "Golden Boot" winner in 2008, 2010-2011 and 2012-2013.Also today, Caledonia will return to action from 6 pm at Couva to tackle cellar placed St Ann's Rangers in the qualifier match of the 2015 Digicel Pro Bowl. The quarterfinals will take place on Friday.
