The University of T&T (UTT) continued their tour of England on the weekend and lost their second game by 136 runs to MCC at Shenley Parks.
The young cricketers from T&T have been on tour of England since last week and lost their opening game to Oxford University by 224 runs. On the weekend, they improved but still went under to MCC. Batting first on winning the toss MCC rattled up an impressive 328 for eight off 50 overs.
Leading the way was Jamie Harris who banged an unbeaten 72. There were also half centuries for Shaun Hicks (54) and Oliver Graham (61). Bowling for UTT, Randy Narine was expensive conceding 72 runs but he snared three wickets. Skipper Addrien Daniel did a fair job in taking 2/45 off his 10 overs.
After being bowled out for just 64 runs in their opening match, UTT took to the crease looking for an improved performance. Daniel and Randy Mahase got them off to a slow by solid start and in the end UTT closed at 192 for five off thier 50 overs. Mahase scored 67, Daniel 26 and Terrance Nanan 48.
UTT will continue to play matches during the 10-day visit but according to UTT manager of Sports and Recreation, Daren Ganga: "This tour has a lot more to do than winning cricket matches. The guys are here for development purposes, as many have not travelled overseas to play cricket before. Also, we are using this opportunity to forge closer ties with UK Universities to assist not only cricket but a broad spectrum of sports.
