National cricket captain Rayad Emrit belted an aggressive 164 to lead Alescon Comets to a massive first innings total against Esmeralda at the end of day one in round seven of the Shanghai Construction Group National League at Pierre Road, Charlieville, yesterday.
The Comets batsmen were in a destructive mood scoring at over six runs per over to post 450 all out in 73.5 overs. Emrit slammed 25 fours and four sixes in his 109-ball knock, while Stephan Wharwood scored 93 and national player Imran Khan contributed 62. In reply Esmeralda had a poor start to its first innings, closing on 28/5 with spin bowler Khan taking 3/13 and Kissoondath Magram picking up 2/5. Both teams went into the match desperate for a win as Comets are in eighth place while Esmeralda lies at the foot of the ten-team table.
In a South battle at Syne Village, Gregory Mahabir also scored a century to put third placed Powergen Penal in a comfortable position against fifth placed F.C Clarke Road. Mahabir finished the day on an unbeaten 143 off 241 balls (19 fours) to push Powergen to 272/6 at stumps. Nicholas Sookdeosingh and Jeron Maniram were also among the runs, scoring 55 and 38 respectively. National player Kjorn Ottley was the best bowler for Clarke Road grabbing 2/12.
Today the same fixtures will take place in round seven of the Sunday League 50-over competition, while round seven of the National League will conclude on May 16 and 17.
