Peter Sellier, 16, of Mike's Bikes won the Open One Division (five laps) of the Mike's Bike's MTB Revolution Six in Chaguaramas on Sunday, his third win in as many races in the T&T Cycling Federation (TTCF) Mountain Bike League.Sellier has accumulated 21 points in the league, and is seven points ahead of Ryan Chin (Breakaway) who finished second. Sellier won in a time of one hour, 11 minutes and 12 seconds (1:11:12), ahead of Chin (1:13:49) and Slipstream's David Hackshaw (1:16:48).
Sellier remarked, "Had an awesome race today. Took home the gold. Some real bad luck to Ryan Chin and Chris Govia with an under-pressured tire and uncontrollable cramps. These two guys are some really strong cyclists also from the Giant (bicycles) family. If no technical difficulties for these guys came up, I would have had one hell of a fight." There were 13 competitors in the Open One ranging in age from 16 - 60.
The Open Two Division (two laps) had 45 competitors ranging in age from 13 - 52 and was also dominated by youngsters. Dimitri Commissiong-Payne, 14, also achieved his third win overall in as many races, finishing in a time of 32:27. The ladies were judged separately and also raced two laps. Maria Gooding and Kiyomi Rankine both of Rainbow Warriors Triathlon Club placed first and second respectively; followed by Afifah Mohammed of Mountain Bike Kings in third.
The Mike's Bikes MTB Revolution Six was made possible with support from the Chaguaramas Development Authority and the Tourism Development Company and event sponsors, Blue Waters, Gatorade, Kiss and Specialized. Registration for the event goes towards trail maintenance. The fourth and final TTCF Mountain Bike League Race is scheduled for June 21 at a venue to be announced.
