T&T international Rundell Winchester scored late to earn Portland Timbers 2 a 1-1 draw with Real Monarchs SLC at Rio Tinto Stadium, Utah, USA, in the Western Conference of the US Soccer League on Saturday.Real forward Emery Welshman scored his first goal past goalkeeper Jake Gleeson off a through ball from midfielder Fito Ovalle for the Monarch's to lead in the eighth minute, but T2 battled back as former RSL man Will Johnson assisted Winchester's 86th minute half-volley equalizer.
The draw left Timbers 2, seventh with 11 points after eight matches, seven behind leaders Sacramento while T&T's Trevin Caesar's Austin Aztez is fifth with 13 points from nine matches, the same as LA Galaxy II, and Arizona United SC.This after Caesar was on target to put Austin Aztex ahead 2-0, however his team collapsed to s 3-2 loss to Arizona United SC .
The Aztex stormed out to an early lead with two goals in the opening 15 minutes.In the ninth minute, Aztex defender Kyle Hoffer tossed in a long throw-in which was punched away by Arizona goalkeeper Carl Woszczynski.The attempted clearance went straight to Kris Tyrpak, who quickly hit the ball into the oppentent's goal for Tyrpak's team-leading fifth goal of the season.
Former North East Stars' striker Caesar added to the lead six minutes later when he dribbled the ball through the heart of Arizona's defense, took a turn toward goal and slammed the ball into the net.Arizona's started its comeback in the 35th minute after Joesph Shinsky went down in the penalty area and forward Brad Stisser converted.
Minutes into the second-half Long Tan easily rounded his marker before beating Aztex goalkeeper Cody Laurendi to level the match at 2-2 and 20 minutes later Tan converted another penalty kick, to put his team 3-2 ahead after which they held on for the win.Meanwhile, T&T defender Julius James and defending champions San Antonio Scorpions got the better of Kareem Moses' Edmonton FC at Clarke Field on Sunday afternoon in North American Soccer League (NASL) action.
The win was only the second for the eighth placed Scorpions, now with seven points from six matches, two more than Edmonton.At the top is New York Cosmos with 15 points, three ahead of Tampa Bay Rowdies.
