The T&T Contractors Association (TTCA) is staging its seventh Annual Coral Cup Classic Golf Tournament at Millennium Lakes Golf & Country Club in Trincity, today and tomorrow.
The tournament is being held to continue efforts to promote networking among its local and regional partners and also raise funds for non-profit organisations within T&T.
The tournament will target 40 teams of two golfers each from throughout the Caribbean, who will vie for ten pairs of attractive prizes using the "Two Ball Better Ball" format.
There will be a new twist, as team members will start on different tee boxes and the team scores will be tallied only at the end of the round.
This year, the charity identified to benefit from the tournament is The Coalition Against Domestic Violence (CADV).
CADV is made up of an amalgam of over thirty organisations and individuals that are involved in support services for victims of abuse.
It is a non-profit organisation that is committed to developing responses and policies that address the specific issues of violence against men, women, children and the elderly.
Among the many programmes offered by the CADV, the TTCA's efforts would be directed to the Children's Education Fund.
Through this programme the Coalition assists in funding the educational needs of children.
The proceeds will be used to provide books, school supplies, transportation and uniforms to children from homes affected by domestic abuse.
As in previous years, a major feature of the event is the opportunity for four golfers to win a USD 250,000 prize for a Hole in One from 180 yards on the ninth hole on the second day of the tournament.
The gold sponsor of the tournament is the Junior Sammy Group of Companies, which continues their long standing support of the event.
Other major sponsors include Trinidad Cement Ltd, Lifetime Solutions, KALLCO and Haygem Tours and Travel Service Ltd.
