Markaz is ideally suited by conditions of the group three, 60000, Criterion Stakes over seven furlongs of 'good' Newmarket this afternoon, one of seven meetings on yet another overwhelming 'super-Saturday!'
How do we cope?
The answer is by specialising and set-weight' races are my domain which, of course, include all two-year-old races; nothing, even now, compares to computing/handicapping juveniles and Markaz hit useful time-handicap marks last season when rated among the 'top ten' in the Free Handicap.
Although successful only once from nine outings Markaz has hit the frame five times in his last seven; there's no urgency with Barry Hill-trained youngsters and this Dark Angel colt has improved 24 lbs from his second race, typical.
This represents a major step forward and taking on six useful, experienced, four-year-olds over the toughest distance will either 'make or break' Markaz because his veteran trainer is 100% satisfied he's in tremendous form.
No 'cert' by any means but I'll bet Markaz is able to double his tally!
Newcastle kicks-off its last 'Plate' meeting with a fascinating 2-y-o Maiden Stakes over five furlongs; according to the TH Paddy Power has once-raced Geno to beat and vica versa!
Geno pleased trainer Kevin Ryan when a length second to Rosina at York earlier this month whereas Richard Fahey was understandably disappointed with Paddy Power when an ignominious fifth on his second start.
Chances are Geno will improve but I'll stick with the better time-figure of Paddy Power and with Sammy Jo Bell claiming 5lbs apprentice allowance on the stiff climb this looks a potential each-way bet to nothing.
David Evans has a genuine affection for Chester and saddles Silver Wings, clear 'best-in' for the Novice Stakes over five furlongs of 'good to firm' ground, and napped!

Selections: Newcastle, 1.25 Paddy Power (e.w); Chester, 1.55 Silver Wings (nap); Newmarket, 3.25 Markaz (e.w).
