Manager of the T&T Red Steel Colin Borde is banking on all round legend Jacques Kallis to play a major part in getting his team back on track in the 2015 Hero Caribbean Premier League (T20) tournament.
The T&T Red Steel has made a slow start to the competition, with just one point from two matches. They had a rained out opening game against the St Lucia Zouks in St Lucia, then travelled to Barbados, where they were hammered by eight wickets by the Barbados Tridents.
Borde is banking on the senior men to come forward :"All games are important but this one coming on the weekend is crucial." T&T Red Steel will come up against the St Kitts Patriots at Warner Park in St Kitts on Saturday.
"A win at this stage would give us some momentum going forward. Sometimes a win is all you need and the confidence gained is amazing. Having said that the guys are not panicking, they are doing what they have do to get success.
"At this point they are remaining calm, focused on the process and we believe once this happens the results will come. The senior players are working hard and assisting as best as they can. Jacques Kallis has been wonderful, he has been very calm and this helps those around him. As you know he is a deep thinker of the game and has been working beautifully with the players.
We believe that he will play a huge role alongside the other senior players in taking us forward. A team effort is required to win tournaments and we are a team."
The Red Steel is currently in St Kitts and had a good workout at Warner Park yesterday. Some of the players were due to visit Warner Park last night to see the Jamaica Tallawahs battle the Patriots.
Borde is reporting that there are some niggling injuries but nothing to worry about: "There are no major injuries, just the usual niggling ones that a player may have. We have the support staff to treat with those and all will be fine come match time on Saturday."
The former West Indies 'A' team manager had some comforting words for the Red Steel fans. "We will be back, don't worry we still have eight games to go and the boys will give you something to cheer about."
