Recognising the importance of investing in the youth of T&T through sport, The Massy Foundation donated $40,000 recently to the Rotary Club of Port-of-Spain 27th Annual District Games for Primary schools in Port-of-Spain and environs.
The athletic meet which took place at the Hasely Crawford Stadium earlier this year, brought over 800 primary school children to the venue for a day of fun, camaraderie and keen competition. Over the years the event has been actively supported by dedicated parents, school officials and well wishers.
This year an added feature at the Games was the involvement of special needs and differently-abled children in competitive races. Gaston Aguilera, chairman of The Massy Foundation stated that, "The Massy Foundation felt it necessary to be part of this venture." He added, "It is important for children to participate in sports, as it helps build character, strength and a great deal of self discipline. All of these attributes can be applied in the journey of life."
On receiving the cheque, Lawford Dupres, Rotary Games Chair, Rotary Club of Port-of-Spain said, "We were delighted that the Massy Foundation could be part of the Games which are so important for the youngsters to showcase their talent." He added: "To undertake such an event requires a great deal of funding so that without the help of corporate citizens like The Massy Foundation the Games would not have been possible."
