A solid come-from-behind effort in the first half made for a fitting start to the T&T Rugby Football Union (TTRFU) calendar of events on Saturday as Caribs RFC defended their Robert Farfan Memorial Cup title with a 24-10 victory over 2013 cup winners, Harvard.
Caribs, last year's league and knockout winners, overturned a 10-0 deficit resulting from first half tries from Harvard's Jamel Alexander and David Gokool, to take a 17-10 half time lead. Tries from Caribs' Miguel Lara and Kurt Quashie matched Harvard's early effort, before a added tries in each half from Anderson Joseph and two conversions from Andrew Taylor put Caribs in a comfort zone en route to victory.
Saturday's match followed a lively exhibition encounter between T&T's Under-19 team and Royalians. The national outfit earned a 27-25 win in a match used as preparation for their upcoming Nacra Under-19 Championship challenge in Orlando, Florida, which starts tomorrow and runs until July 20.
Up next for the clubs are Northern RFC's seven-a-side touch tournament on Saturday at St Anthony's College Ground, followed by the Ruggerama tournament at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, on July 18. The first round of the Toyota Championship Division starts on July 25.
