The T&T Badminton Association (TTBA) in conjunction with the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and the Pan American Badminton Confederation (PABC) recently held a Level One Coaching Course, conducted by Jamaican Richard Gregory Wong, from June 22-27.
The principal goal of the project was to introduce local coaches to the new ways and methods to coaching in badminton. It is a part of the BWF initiative to establish badminton as one of the top participating sports on a global scale.
Wong, who is a BWF level one tutor, advised coaches from various badminton clubs throughout the country in the course, which was held at the Central Regional Indoor Sports Arena in Chaguanas, from 9 am-5 pm each day.
TTBA president Derwin Renales expressed deep satisfaction with the programme and described it as the movement that creates the "ripple effect" needed to catalyse productivity and success of the sport in the country.
He further added that the TTBA was cognisant of the fact that these type of projects were indeed fundamental for the development and improvement of both athletes and coaches and anticipated more of such in the not-so-distant future.
The programme is also another step that the TTBA has recently undertaken with a view of technical development.
In April, TTBA assistant secretary Stephanie Mitchell, participated in a Tournament Events Training Seminar. The seminar was hosted and funded by the PABC and was held in Lima, Peru.
This training was also key in adding value to the success in the organisation of the T&T International Championships, which was held in May.
